Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Lady Caroline Isabella Howard, later Lady Cawdor (1771-1848) as a Young Girl (after an original of 1778), after Sir Joshua Reynolds PRA (Plympton 1723 - London 1792) A full-length portrait of a young girl kneeling beside a flowering shrub, turned slightly to the left, left profile, her right hand stretched towards a rose (?) bush. She is wearing a plain white muslin dress with a blue silk sash, her hooded mantle of black silk is lined with white satin and edged with black lace on her head she wears a white net and lace cap, the lappets pinned up on top to form a sort of turban; her long white silk mittens were probably intended to protect her hands. Extensive landscape with trees and cloudy sky.
