Summary
One of a pair of Chinese carved ivory pagodas, possibly mid-18th-century, with nine tiers hung with ivory bells and with figures inside each tier, topped by a ball finial with four gilt chains, set on an octagonal base with miniature trees and greenery, in a tapering glass case with bamboo-effect gilt frame and on a white-painted wooden pedestal.
Provenance
Thought to have come from Marble Hill House, the villa of Henrietta, Countess of Suffolk (1681-1767), who was the aunt of John Hobart, 2nd Earl of Buckinghamshire (1723-1793).
