Caption
Mary Anne Drury was the first wife of the 2nd Earl of Buckinghamshire, but predeceased him, having borne him three daughters. She is here shown with her mother, who was the daughter of John Tyrell, 3rd Bt. She married Sir Thomas Drury of Overstone, and had one other daughter, who married Brownlow Cust, 1st Baron Brownlow, and a son, who died in infancy. By the time this portrait was painted, it must, therefore, have been evident that Mary Anne would be the senior of her father’s two co-heirs. It is puzzling, however, that the other sister, Jocosa, was not included, and it is possible the picture was, at some point, cut down.
