Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Sir Thomas Sebright, 4th Baronet, 1692-1736 or, possibly, Mr Crawley by William Aikman (Forfar 1682 – London 1731), circa 1720. A full-length portrait, standing in a landscape. Wearing full-bottomed wig, grey frock coat with silver buttons. White silk glove on left hand holding other glove. Under tunic in blue with brown damask braid. White cravat. knee breeches and hose, black shoes with silver buckles. Over his left shoulder is a red 'cloak' with loop. Silver-topped cane in right hand. Sebright was a Tory, but his reputation as a book collector brought him into Hobart's Whig circle. A portrait of Mr Crawley was mentioned by a visitor who saw the pictures in 1741.
