Oil painting on canvas, Queen Charlotte (of Mecklenburg-Strelitz) (1744-1818) (after Allan Ramsay) by David Martin (Anstruther 1737 - Edinburgh 1797), 1766. A full-length portrait, standing, half turned to right. Wearing her coronation robes, consisting of a gold embroidered dress, state robes of ermine and blue. Left hand touching crown which rests on velvet cushion lying on a table with red velvet cover. A massive column at right. Giltwood frame.

Suppplied to John Hobart, 2nd Earl of Buckingham (1723-1793), as Envoy at St Petersburg 1762; the portrait of the Queen paid for on 20 July 1765;bequeathed with the hall and contents by Philip,11th Marquess of Lothian (1882-1940)
