Summary
Watercolour on paper, Jedburgh Abbey from the South-east by Thomas Girtin (Southwark 1775 – Southwark 1802), circa 1796/1800. White mount, moulded wood frame. A slightly larger version is now in the Yale Center for British Art. This is an autograph variant replica of the the Yale watercolour rather than a copy.
Provenance
Evidently a Lothian picture; The barony of Jedburgh is one of the family titles, and a family seat was at Jedburgh; discovered at Blickling in 1957 by Francis Hawcroft, Deputy Curator of Norwich Castle Museum; bequeathed with the hall and contents by Philip, 11th Marquess of Lothian (1882-1940)
