Summary
Oil painting on panel, King James I (James VI of Scotland) (1566–1625), after Daniel Mytens the elder (Delft c.1590 – The Hague 1648), 17th century. A full-length portrait, seated, wearing state robes, red over tunic, white lining to red cloak. Long heavy metallic thread tasselled rope or passementiere. White hose, white shoes. White ruff and cuffs with reticella lace. Sitting in red velvet-covered chair in front of large coat-of-arms in a laurel wreath with rose. Plumed hat on table at right. Table covered with red cloth with gilt border and fringe. Pink and black patterned carpet. Frame: Ref number '274' in gilt at lower left, and '274' in white at lower left. A small copy of the large state portrait by Daniel Mytens, known only from this and other replicas.
