Summary
Oil painting on canvas, George Villiers, 1st Duke of Buckingham (1592-1628) (after Daniel Mytens the elder), British (English) School, 17th century. A half-length portrait, half turned to his right. Wearing a white and silver coat with pearl buttons, wide lace collar in punto in aria reticella lace. Wearing the Lesser George of the Order of the Garter on a blue ribbon around his neck. Natural brown hair, moustache and goatee beard. Inscribed twice at top left, faintly 'Duke of Buckingham, and in cream 'Duke of Buckingham'. Inscribed lower left in brown '100'. Scratched lower right: 'N'. Frame inscribed 'Duke of Buckingham'. A copy derived from the Mytens full-length of 1626 at Euston Hall, Suffolk.
