Summary
A poker work and pen work decorated cypress chest, North Italian, late 17th century. With a hinged lid with two panels flanking a central cartouche, decorated overall with foliate and chequer board designs, the front having further panels profusely decorated with figural scenes, mythical beasts, putti and cartouches all within scroll and floral designs. With similar panels to the sides and moulded bottom edge. Lined in a red fabric.
Provenance
Part of the Lothian Collection. The hall and contents were bequeathed to the National Trust by Philip, 11th Marquess of Lothian (1882-1940).
