Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Sir John Pole, 5th Bt (c.1733–1760) by Allan Ramsay (Edinburgh 1713 - Dover 1784), signed and dated, bottom right: A Ramsay / 1747. A feigned oval half-length portrait of the only son of Sir William Pole, 4th Bt of Shute, Devon, whom he succeeded in 1741. He married firstly Elizabeth Mills of Woodford (1737 - 1758) and secondly Anna Maria Palmer (who married secondly George Clavering).
