Oil painting on paper stuck down on board, Commodore the Hon George Edgcumbe, later 1st Earl of Mount Edgcumbe ( 1720/1 -1795), studio of Sir Joshua Reynolds PRA (Plympton 1723 - London 1792), circa 1760. A three-quarter length portrait, standing in profile to the right, head half-turned to face outwards. He is wearing naval uniform with his left hand tucked into his waistcoat whilst his right hand is indicating ship in rough seas to right in the background.
