Summary
Seven similar tables with folding supports of plain design. These tables have been referred to as 'Spanish tables', perhaps alluding to Spanish vargueno stands which often folded in a similar manner. Cotehele's tables were probably estate made in the seventeeth century. Most are oak, one is made from sweet chestnut and one is possibly walnut. According to Victor Chinnery (2004): An oak folding table, the four-plank top now lacking the original cleats, the underside fitted with two cross-battens to which are hinged a pair of open folding frames falling to form legs, to be held in position by angled wrought iron braces locating in spring-loaded catches fitted to the centre muntin of each frame.
