Summary
One of a pair of Delft tin glazed earthenware blue and white dishes of circular shape; decorated with formal flowers; marked on the undersides 'PK 18'. Conjoined PK for Pieter-Gerrits Kan and '18' for Drie Vergulde Astonnekens ('three golden ash barrels). A similar dish with the same mark, conjoined 'pk' and '18' is at the Victoria and Albert Museum C.63-1977. Michael Archer, in 'Delftware', 1997, notes that the same shape with bosses around the rim and pattern are also found on English delftware, which suggests that these Dutch dishes were imported to England in the early 18th century.
