Summary
Oil painting on panel, An Unknown Lady, miscalled Princess Henrietta Anne, Duchess of Orléans (‘Minette’) (1644–1670), in the style of Gerrit van Honthorst (Utrecht 1590 – Utrecht 1656). INscribed in gold at top: Henrietta / Dcs. of Orleans. A painted oval, head-and-shoulders portrait against a plain, dark background, with the sitter turned slightly to the left and looking out at the spectator. She wears long, fine pale brown hair in loose curls onto her shoulders, pearl earrings and a string of pearls with a falling double strand around her neck. A black bodice is covered with a white gauze shawl. There is an inscription which is of a later date and an oval panel also dates from a later period.
