Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Possibly Sir Jeffrey Hudson (1619 – 1682) on Horseback, after Sir Anthony Van Dyck (Antwerp 1599 - London 1641), 18th century. Possibly Queen Henrietta Maria's dwarf on horseback. This is a small study, after the large painting by Van Dyck, of Sir Jeffrey Hudson on Charles I's horse.
Provenance
Bequeathed by Lady Ayloffe, widow of Sir Joseph Ayloffe (1709- 1781), to Mrs Aith whose son gave it to the Duke of Buckingham; possibly bought by Charlotte, Lady Glamis (d. 1881), at a Stowe sale (1848), and given to the National Trust in 1956 by her descendant, Miss F. Bowes Lyon, London
