Eighteenth-century inscription on front free endpaper: Given to Lady Stavordale by Mr Webb, of Newton near Bath. [i.e. possibly Elizabeth Fox-Strangway (nee Horner) (n.d.), wife of Stephen Fox-Strangways, 1st Earl of Ilchester (1st Lord Ilchester and Stavordale, Baron of Redlynch, co. Somerset)]. 'By Mrs Montagu' added in ink on title page. Binding: eighteenth-century full sheep; spine with five raised bands and gilt fillets; brown leather spine title label 'Essay on Shakespear'; red sprinkled edges.
