Summary
Bibliographic description
Vol. 2. Running number: 7869. Provenance: manuscript inscriptions on front fly-leaf: "Suum cuiq[ue]. Tho. Hearne 1720" [i.e. Thomas Hearne (1678-1735), antiquary and diarist whose library was sold in 1736, which is undoubtedly when Sir Richard Ellys (1682-1742) purchased it]; "Nesselij / Catalog. Bibl. / Vindob / Vol. 2" [i.e. instruction to the binder as to the lettering on the spine label, possibly in Hearne's hand]; and "Sc. 2471" [i.e. inventory number, possibly in Hearne's hand]. Binding: eighteenth-century full sprinkled calf; sewn onto five sewing supports; five raised bands; double gilt fillet border; gilt roll pattern along board edges; gold-tooled spine, with stamp decoration within double fillet panels and roll pattern at head and tail; gilt title on brown leather label and gilt vol. number on spine; red sprinkled textblock edges. Both boards with water-staining.
