viii, [2], 363, [35] p. ; 12mo. Provenance: eighteenth century manuscript inscription "John Talbot" (i.e. ?John Ivory Talbot, ?1691-1772) on title-page. Provenance: eighteenth century manuscript inscription "Davenport Talbot", i.e. William Davenport Talbot, 1764-1800, on recto of second free end-paper. Numerous eighteenth century manuscript annotations in a variety of different hands on pastedowns and preliminary and final free end-papers. These include numerous receipts, some for horses (e.g. "For the fret" or "An approved ointment for batter'd hooves"), and some for people (e.g. "To make the hair grow" or "Sticking plaister for a sore back"). Annotations also include, on front pastedown, what appears to be a recording of the weight of a jockey (with boots, saddle and bridle) at various points between 1748 and 1749. Binding: eighteenth century gilt-tooled sprinkled calf; decorative tooling on edges of boards; gilt tooling and eighteenth century manuscript title label reading "Farriery" on spine; text block edges sprinkled red and brown.
