Pictorial bookplate: Ex Libris Eugene Nielen Marais Inner Temple [engraver's monogram in bottom left-hand corner of picture: GJ]. Black ink stamp on flyleaves: The National Trust founded 1895. Binding: Eighteenth-century polished red goat over boards on three raised bands with two false (spines faded to brown), covers and spine with black inlay and gilt floral tooling, triangular gilt roll on board edges and inners, dark blue spine labels, gilt edges. Cottage-roof style binding with painted black cottage frame and comma shaped tools in centre of covers; black painting within floral tools on spine.
