Provenance: library of Sir Richard Ellys (1682-1742) of Nocton, Lincolnshire. Manuscript initial on front endleaf of vol. 1: "M." [i.e. catalogue code of John Mitchell (ca. 1685-1751), librarian to Sir Richard Ellys (1682-1742)], continued "NB in vol. 1.&2. the catalogues [underlined] &c are bound before the Cabinet des Tableaux &c. [title underlined] and the two last leaves of vol. 2 are transposed.". Price marked in pencil on front endleaf of vol.1: "7-6". Binding: eighteenth-century full sprinkled brown calf over boards (rubbed). Gilt roll pattern on board edges. Five raised bands; gilt-tooled spine with gilt title on brown goatskin label; gilt volume number tooled directly on to spine (vols. 1 & 2), on black leather label (vol. 3). Two colour endbands with front beads. Three supports laced in at slight angle; pastedown and endleaves at both ends. Red sprinkled edges. Green silk moveable marker (detached in vol. 1).
