Provenance: Front and rear fly-leaves and title page verso are filled with manuscript prayers (in hand of Isabella Hervey (1670-1693)?). Manuscript inscriptions on title page: "John & Isabella" [i.e. John Hervey, later 1st Earl of Bristol (1665-1751) and his first wife Isabella (1670-1693)], "This was my dear wifes. Constantly used by her" [i.e. John and Isabella Hervey], and "Lett grace secure the harvest of her heart to thee, / and what yt leaves, grant, may be solely gleand by me". Armorial bookplate on title page verso: John Hervey of Ickworth in Com. Suff. Esqr. 1698 [i.e. John Hervey, later 1st Earl of Bristol (1665-1751)]. Marginalia and underscorings in pencil and ink; according to Sydenham Hervey such "mysterious little pencil marks in the margins" are a sign of ownership by John Hervey, 1st Earl of Bristol (1665-1751).. Binding: Quarter-bound calf, with marbled paper over boards. Rebacked in blind-tooled goatskin, with red gilt morocco title label and date stamp on spine.

Part of the Bristol Collection. The house and contents were acquired through the National Land Fund and transferred to the National Trust in 1956
