Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Catherine Harpur, Lady Gough (d.1740) by John Vanderbank the younger (London 1694 - London 1739), circa 1739. Three-quarter length portrait, three-quarter view, wearing a white satin dress with full sleeves and skirt. She has pearl drop earrings and pearls in her hair. She touches a bouquet with a pink rose with her right hand. A blue drape is behind her and a landscape with a reddish sky (inventory card). Catherine (d.1740), daughter of Sir John Harpur, 4th Bt. and Catherine Crewe, married a Warwickshire landowner, Sir Henry Gough.

Acquired with Calke Abbey's contents, with - 1981) to the National Trust with the aid of a grant provided by the National Heritage Memorial Fund, thanks to a special allocation of money from the Government and transferred in lieu of tax on the estate of Charles Jenney Harpur-Crewe (1917 the house that was given by Henry Jenney Harpur-Crewe (1921- 1991), in 1984
