Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Jemima Harpur, Lady Palmer (d.1763) by David D'Agar (fl.c.1724-1735), 1724. A three-quarter-length portrait of a young woman, seated. She wears a white silk dress and holds a sprig of orange with a green fruit in her right hand. Her dark hair is worn over her right shoulder. Dark landscape background. Jemima was a daughter of Sir John Harpur, 4th Bt and Catherine Crewe. She married Sir Thomas Palmer of Carlton Hall in Northamptonshire. Paid for in November 1724.
Provenance
Acquired with Calke Abbey's contents, with the aid of a grant provided by the National Heritage Memorial Fund, thanks to a special allocation of money from the Government and transferred in lieu of tax on the estate of Charles Jenney Harpur-Crewe (1917 - 1981) to the National Trust with the house that was given by Henry Jenney Harpur-Crewe (1921- 1991), in 1984
