Summary
Oil painting on panel, Loch Gair, Scotland by James Eyre (Derbyshire 1802 - c.1839). The loch, a small inlet on the west of Loch Fyne, is in mountainous terrain with two trees to the left, a mountain ridge in the distance. A label on the back reads; 'A present for my niece Georgiana, Lady Crewe, on her birthday April 10th 1868, from her affect. Uncle Charles H. Crewe'.
Provenance
Given to Georgiana, Lady Crewe (1824 – 1910), on her birthday April 10th 1868 by Charles Harpur Crewe (1805 – 1874), her uncle; Acquired with Calke Abbey's contents, with the aid of a grant provided by the National Heritage Memorial Fund, thanks to a special allocation of money from the Government and transferred in lieu of tax on the estate of Charles Jenney Harpur-Crewe (1917 - 1981) to the National Trust with the house that was given by Henry Jenney Harpur-Crewe (1921- 1991), in 1984
