Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Madonna and Child, after Parmigianino (Parma 1503 – Casalmaggiore 1540), 18th century. The Madonna, half length, stands with back to the viewer, half-turned to the left, sideways, in profile, wearing her blonde hair coiled into plaits. She holds the Child up and touches its mouth with the small finger of her right hand. An 18th-century copy of a painting in the Naples, Museo Capodimonte.
Provenance
Acquired with Calke Abbey's contents, with the aid of a grant provided by the National Heritage Memorial Fund, thanks to a special allocation of money from the Government and transferred in lieu of tax on the estate of Charles Jenney Harpur-Crewe (1917 - 1981) to the National Trust with the house that was given by Henry Jenney Harpur-Crewe (1921- 1991), in 1984
