Summary
Oil painting on canvas, 'Head of Titian' (1487/90 – 1576), after Dutch School, 17th century. A painted oval half-length portrait of an old man, turned to left, profile, with a white beard wearing a black cap and a brown fur-lined collar to his coat. Painted beside him is the inscription : Titiano / No.1.Ano.1430 [!].
Provenance
Calke Abbey was given to the National Trust by Henry Harpur Crewe (1921-1991) and the contents, including this painting, were acquired with the aid of a grant from the National Heritage Fund, thanks to a special allocation of money from the Government, in 1984.
