Summary
Oil painting on canvas, A Battle Scene with a Bridge by Jacques Courtois (Saint Hippolyte 1621 – Rome 1676), Il Borgognone. The bridge in the centre of the picture has skirmishing figures and a horse on it. The middle section of the bridge has fallen into the sea. A fortified town on the left-hand side.
Provenance
Calke Abbey was given to the National Trust by Henry Harpur Crewe (1921-1991) and the contents, including this painting, were acquired with the aid of a grant from the National Heritage Fund, thanks to a special allocation of money from the Government, in 1984
