Summary
Oil painting on canvas, The Mater Dolorosa, studio of Bartolomé Esteban Murillo (Seville 1617 – Seville 1682), 17th century. The Madonna, half-length, wearing a blue cloak with yellow underscarf and a red dress underneath with white cuffs, looks, with her grey eyes, heavenwards up to the left in a supplicating manner, with her round lips slightly parted slightly revealing her top teeth. She holds her garments with her hands, right hand above left, across her chest. A faint aura of a halo surrounds her head, against a plain brown background. Probably a copy of the autograph work that once hung at Tyntesfield.
