Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Charles Dillon-Lee, 12th Viscount Dillon of Costello-Gallin KP, FRS, MP (1745-1813) by David Martin. A three-quarter-length portrait of Viscount Dillon in an interior space, wearing red velvet robe and wig. He looks over his right shoulder at the viewer, and holds a parchment in his right hand. Born Charles Dillon, he was the son of Henry Dillon, 11th Viscount Dillon of Costello-Gallin and Lady Charlotte Lee; He married firstly the Hon. Henrietta Maria Phipps, daughter of Constantine Phipps, 1st Baron Mulgrave and the Hon. Lepell Hervey, on 19 August 1776 at Brussels and secondly Marie Rogier in 1787. He was MP for Westbury, Wiltshire in 1770. In 1776 he changed his name to Charles Dillon-Lee under the terms of the will of his uncle, the 3rd Earl of Lichfield. He was invested as a Privy Counsellor (P.C.) [Ireland] in 1784. Was High Sheriff of County MAyo in 1787. He succeeded to the title of 12th Viscount Dillon of Costello-Gallin, on 15 September 1787. Was Governor of County Mayo in 1788.
