Summary
A headboard formed from a gilded wood pelmet (or window cornice), arched and fluted between astragal edges and with curved, circular foliage paterae terminals. Stuffed and covered board below. Converted from a pelmet, originally one of three from the Grand Cabinet at Blenheim Palace, probably made by Mayhew & Ince to the designs of Sir William Chambers, 1776.

Probably supplied by Ince & Mayhew for the Grand Cabinet, Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire in 1776; Lord and Lady Iliffe, Basildon Park, Berkshire; Accepted by HM Government in lieu of inheritance of tax and allocated to the National Trust for display at Basildon Park, 2010.
