Summary
Unpainted wood and metal model locomotive engine. The locomotive resembles a 19th century type known as a "Jenny Lind". It is clockwork driven via a crankshaft on the centre axle and has a 2-2-2 wheel arrangement. The gauge is approx. 3.25" The overall structure comprises a wooden frame with wooden smokebox, firebox, cab, bufferbeams and wheels. The buffers are spring-loaded. The boiler is a cylinder of metal surmounted by a safety valve fashioned in wood. The chimney is a smaller cylinder of similar metal, flared out at the top and mounted on a base of wood attached to the smokebox. The smokebox door is a flap of thin circular metal and hinge which permits access to the upper push-rod pivots of the drive. The clockwork mechanism is housed in the firebox with the spring sited at the bottom and the winding arbor access point located at the lower left hand side. There is no key. A working reversing gear lever is located on the left hand side of the firebox with a working brake release mechanism at the rear of the cab. There are two accompanying wheel splasher components which were originally fitted to the running board of the loco frame but are now detached. See 220850.1.2 and 1.3.
