Summary
Oil painting on canvas laid down on hardboard (oval), Anne Peacock, Mrs George Butle Conyngham (d.1754), British (English) School, early 18th century. An oval, half-length portrait of a young woman, turned slightly to the right, against a dark background, gazing at the spectator, wearing a red cross-over dress with a blue lining over a white chemise, her light brown (blonde?) hair dressed high with a centre parting and falling down over her left shoulder, her right hand holding her hair as it falls over her shoulder to her breast.
Provenance
Purchased by National Trust in 1957 from William Lowry Lenox-Conyngham (1903–1957), shortly before his death, along with the other contents of Springhill
