Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Sir Joseph Yorke, Baron Dover KB, MP (1724-1792) by Joseph Samuel Webster (fl. 1757-1796), after Guillaume-Jean-Joseph de Spinny, inscribed lower left: S. Webster after Spinny 1770 and on letter: To The Hon Major General Yorke His Majesty's Minister. Although this copy is dated 1770, the letter in it appears to commemorate 1758, when Joseph Yorke's special mission to Prussia began. The portrait also shows him with the ribbon of the Bath, which he was only accorded in 1761. Shows a gentleman wearing a red sash, seated in an armchair at a desk holding a letter.
