Summary
Oil painting on canvas. Overmantel painting, A Stag Hunt in Full Cry, by John Wootton (Snitterfield c.1682 – London 1765). Contrary to appearances, this Wootton is not an indigenous overmantel, but was acquired by Mrs Bambridge in 1959. Its poor condition makes it impossible to establish whether it is autographed.
Provenance
Bought through Leggatt Bros. in July 1959 for £ 500; bequeathed by Elsie Kipling, Mrs George Bambridge (1896 - 1976), daughter of Rudyard Kipling, to the National Trust together with Wimpole Hall, all its contents and an estate of 3,000 acres
