Summary
17th century crewelwork / crewel emboidery panel featuring a design of plants or trees in rich green and blue wools on a linen panel. This was probably originally made to be part of a set of hangings for a bed. Many of the beautifully emboiderred motifs appear to have been cut from other textiles and applied to the back panel. There are also numerous past repairs, all illustating a history of long use and care. The piece is reputed to have been found in a drawer of a piece of furniture given to East Riddlesden Hall, a sewing needle still in place. Conservation work has conslidated the supporting panel, but preserved evidence of the past repairs and the needle.
