Summary
Print, coloured engraving, Shepherd, Shepherdess and Cupid (Bacchus and Ariadne) by Angelica Kauffmann RA (Chur 1741 – Rome 1807). To the left stands a shepherd holding wooden staff in his left hend, his right hand is raised with his fore finger to his lips; wearing thonged sandals, and his left foot is raised on a stone; wearing a white shirt under a blue/grey knee length tunic, and knee length leggings. To the right is a shepherdess asleep at the base of a tree, her left arm is stretched out, and her right arm is raised over her head; wearing a long flowing white garment, with a long pale peach wrap. In the centre is Cupid standing on rocks resting on one with his left knee; in his hands he is holding an arrow pointing towards the shepherdess, to the right of the shepherdess on the ground is Cupid's bow, in oval gilt frame
