Summary
Floor tile - Design 59 - Fragment - The tile has a diagonal cross within a circle, which divides the tile into four quadrants. In each quadrant is a blobby fleur de lys along each edge. The tiles formed a carpet design as they can be laid in any direction and still form a coherent pattern. Potentially mid 13th to early 14th century. (Group F – Burnett-Brown Tile Collection Report). The tile fragment is a corner piece, although some of the corner is missing, and is in fair condition. Most of the design has worn away but some slip remains at the sides but is not glazed. There is no glaze on the body except in a small dent and there is a small amount along one edge. On the reverse is a small scoop which is partially filled with mortar.
