Summary
Floor tile - Design 59 - Fragment - The tile has a diagonal cross within a circle, which divides the tile into four quadrants. In each quadrant is a blobby fleur de lys along each edge. The tiles formed a carpet design as they can be laid in any direction and still form a coherent pattern. Potentially mid 13th to early 14th century. (Group F – Burnett-Brown Tile Collection Report). The tile fragment is a corner piece and is in good condition. A good amount of slip remains, particularly along the sides and the very edge is glazed both on the slip and the body. Elsewhere there is no glaze on the body.
