Summary
Floor tile - Design 59 - Fragment - The tile has a diagonal cross within a circle, which divides the tile into four quadrants. In each quadrant is a blobby fleur de lys along each edge. The tiles formed a carpet design as they can be laid in any direction and still form a coherent pattern. Potentially mid 13th to early 14th century. (Group F – Burnett-Brown Tile Collection Report). The tile fragment is a corner piece, but it is missing a chunk from the corner and is in good condition. A good amount of slip remains and some has turned a light orange colour. A small strip of slip along the side is glazed as is the body of the tile in that area. Elsewhere on the body therr are only very small patches. On the reverse is a small scoop which is partially filled with mortar.
