Summary
Floor tile - Design 28 - Fragment - This design is the mirror image of design 7. The design depicts two dolphins either side of a tulip shaped vase with scorpion tail rising to the left. Fimbriated rosette at the bottom right hand corner plus part of arc and swag foliage. The glaze is olive over the body and light olive over the slip. From a collection of designs of tiles commissioned for Lacock Abbey by William Sharington. Likely manufactured between 1550-1553. These are part of a set with designs 1(or 2), 3, 6, 7, 8 and 31. (Group A – Burnett-Brown Tile Collection Report). The tile fragment is the bottom right corner of the design and is in good condition. The majority of the slip remains and nearly all is covered in glaze. All of the body is covered with a layer of glaze.
