Summary
Floor tile - Design 15 - The design depicts a band of stylised rosettes within circles in the bottom left corner. The rest of the design has large stylised seaweed like foliage. The tile has a straight to slight bevel edge and a single central scoop in the reverse. The glaze is light olive over the slip and olive glaze over the body.Potentially late 15th to early 16th century. It is part of a 16 tile set with designs 14, 16 and 17. (Group C – Burnett-Brown Tile Collection Report). The tile is in good condition, the design is still visible and some of the slip still remains, particularly through the middle. The middle of the tile is also where there is still glaze on both the slip and the body. The top, left and bottom sides are worn. There is a chunk of the bottom right corner missing. On the reverse is a large lump of mortar which also half filled in the single central scoop.
