Summary
Floor tile - Design 15 - Fragment - The design depicts a band of stylised rosettes within circles in the bottom left corner. The rest of the design has large stylised seaweed like foliage. The tile has a straight to slight bevel edge and a single central scoop in the reverse. The glaze is light olive over the slip and olive glaze over the body. Potentially late 15th to early 16th century. It is part of a 16 tile set with designs 14, 16 and 17. (Group C – Burnett-Brown Tile Collection Report). The tile is in a stable condition and is the bottom half of a tile. It is likely this fragment was purposefully cut to a rectangle to fill a space. The tile is very dark, likely from heat damage and therefore the design is also damaged. A good amount of slip remains around the band of stylised rosettes. There is some glaze around this area too. There are patches of glaze on all the original outer edges. On the reverse is a single, central scoop and some mortar.
