Summary
Painting. An oil painting on canvas, three-quarter length portrait of Charles Morgan (1736-1787) of Dderw, wearing yellow and brown riding clothes and carrying a riding crop in his right hand and a tricorne hat in the left, in the style of Thomas Gainsborough RA (Sudbury 1727 - London 1788), possibly William Parry ARA (London 1742 – London 1791), 1770. He stands against a landscape background, facing to the right. Within a 19th century, water-gilded frame, with floral decoration and egg and dart moulding to the outer edge.
Provenance
Part of the collection on loan to the National Trust from Newport Museum and Galleries. In March 2012 the National Trust took over the management of Tredegar House with its contents and its 90 acres of gardens and parkland, from Newport City Council for a period of 50 years.
