Summary
Painting. An oil painting on canvas, head-and-shoulders portrait of The Hon. Margaret Wotton, Lady Tufton (1617–before 1657), after Sir Anthony Van Dyck (Antwerp 1599 - London 1641). Mary Howard, facing left, wearing a green dress trimmed with fur with low-cut bodice, and pearl necklace, drop ear-rings and hair decoration. She has a knowing smile. This is a cut-down version of a three-quarter-length portrait at Blickling (NT).
Provenance
Part of the collection on loan to the National Trust from Newport Museum and Galleries. In March 2012 the National Trust took over the management of Tredegar House with its contents and its 90 acres of gardens and parkland, from Newport City Council for a period of 50 years.
