Summary
Painting. An oil painting on canvas, head-and-shoulders portrait of Elizabeth Lewis, Lady Dayrell and later Mrs William Morgan, wearing a white dress with a brown cape fastened at the shoulder, and a pearl necklace, a lock of hair is arranged over her left shoulder, within a sculptured oval, British (English) School, inscribed, bottom right, with identity in fine yellow script, 1660/70. She was the second wife of William Morgan and daughter and co-heir of Edward Lewis of Van Park. Within a 19th century, water-gilded frame, with beaded rail moulding and tongue and leaf moulding on outer edge.
Provenance
Part of the collection on loan to the National Trust from Newport Museum and Galleries. In March 2012 the National Trust took over the management of Tredegar House with its contents and its 90 acres of gardens and parkland, from Newport City Council for a period of 50 years.
