Summary
Painting. An oil painting on panel, three-quarter-length female portrait of A Lady of the Morgan Family, English School, c1610/15. Wearing a brown and white damask dress, open down centre to reveal a scarlet underskirt with lace collar and cuffs. She holds a jewelled prayer book in her right hand and a plumed fan in her left and wears bracelets around both wrists. Against a grey background that could have been overpainted. One of a pair. Within a modern frame, painted matt black.
Provenance
Part of the collection on loan to the National Trust from Newport Museum and Galleries. In March 2012 the National Trust took over the management of Tredegar House with its contents and its 90 acres of gardens and parkland, from Newport City Council for a period of 50 years.
