Summary
Painting. An oil painting on panel, three-quarter-length portrait of A Lady of the Morgan Family, facing slightly to the left, possibly Elizabeth Wintour, Lady Morgan (b.1564) wearing a dark green/brown low cut brocade dress with lace standing collar and cuffs, and a jewelled cap with plume, British (English) School, c1620. Her accessories include a chain necklace and a bracelet on her right wrist, a thread bracelet on left wrist, a watch hanging from a pearl waistband, and she carries a feather fan in her right hand. One of a pair. Within a water-gilded, fluted frame.
Provenance
Part of the collection on loan to the National Trust from Newport Museum and Galleries. In March 2012 the National Trust took over the management of Tredegar House with its contents and its 90 acres of gardens and parkland, from Newport City Council for a period of 50 years.
