Summary
Painting. An oil painting on panel, three-quarter-length female portrait of A Lady of the Morgan Family, English School, c1610/15. She stands against a plain, dark green background,(over painted in blue) and is holding a fixed, white ostrich feather fan in her right hand. She wears a brown and white silk damask dress, open down centre front to reveal a scarlet underskirt with slashed sleeves which reveal scarlet silk undersleeves. Dress trimmed with needlepoint lace. Simple wood frame. One of a pair. [241.2]
Provenance
Part of the collection on loan to the National Trust from Newport Museum and Galleries. In March 2012 the National Trust took over the management of Tredegar House with its contents and its 90 acres of gardens and parkland, from Newport City Council for a period of 50 years.
