Summary
Painting. An oil painting on panel, depicting Venus (after Titian), reclining on a chaise, draped in white and blue fabric but uncovered, English School, c1674. After the original painting of Venus and the Organ Player'. Her the organ player is omitted and the drapery has been added, at a later date, obliterating a dog in the lower left hand corner, which is just about visible, as a 'ghost'. A fountain and avenue of trees lie in the background.
Provenance
In situ in Gilt Room since 1675; part of the collection on loan to the National Trust from Newport Museum and Galleries. In March 2012 the National Trust took over the management of Tredegar House with its contents and its 90 acres of gardens and parkland, from Newport City Council for a period of 50 years.
