Summary
Painting. An oil painting on panel, Cybele as Personification of Earth and Ruler of Nature (after Quellinus), wearing a pink robe, that hanks of her left shoulder, English School, c1674/5. She holds a brass horn and a key in her left hand. After an engraving by Hubertus Quellinus (Antwerp 1619 - Antwerp 1687), published in 1665-1668, based on a sculptural relief in the Burgerzaal in the Amsterdam Town Hall by his brother, Artus I Quellinus (Antwerp 1609 - Antwerp 1688).
Provenance
In situ in Gilt Room since 1675. Part of the collection on loan to the National Trust from Newport Museum and Galleries. In March 2012 the National Trust took over the management of Tredegar House with its contents and its 90 acres of gardens and parkland, from Newport City Council for a period of 50 years.
